At an event held early this Wednesday (03/13) at the Henrique Lage Refinery (Revap) in São José dos Campos (SP), Petrobras presented to Brazil’s southeastern market its latest release for the asphalt segment: the CAP Pro W 30/45, which saves up energy in the machining phase and reduces by 65% greenhouse gas emissions.
The meeting was attended by the vice governor of the state of São Paulo, Felicio Ramuth; the mayor of São José dos Campos, Anderson Farias; and representatives of governmental bodies, utilities, builders, universities, and other chain agents. Besides the benefits to the environment and the health of the workers who apply the new asphalt, they discussed the process of developing the product already available at Revap, including discussion on the project techniques to boost paving durability.
Greener with higher performance
The CAP Pro W 30/45 was specially formulated for low-temperature applications (in the machining and asphalt concrete preparation phase), substantially diminishing energy consumption, improving working conditions, and boosting performance. By applying it at low temperatures, a reduction of roughly 70% in asphalt fumes (vapors generated by the product’s high temperature) is expected.
The new asphalt reduces the application temperature, which may reach about 40ºC, without hindering the performance of the asphalt concrete; it can also drive up machining productivity by 15%. In addition, the proven features of the CAP Pro W 30/45 bring all the benefits of a WMA (Warm Mix Asphalt) with no need to change equipment during the paving process.
Petrobras’s CAP Pro asphalt line
Petrobras is developing a new generation of greener asphalt that conforms with its transition to a low-carbon future. In addition to the CAP Pro W 30/45, the company is already selling the CAP Pro AP, indicated for paving with roughly 15% and 25% recycled content, incorporating the circular economy concept. Both CAP Pro W 30/45 and CAP Pro AP are made at Revap (SP).
For Petrobras’s Industrial Process and Product Director, William França, “Petrobras is steadily marching toward a fair energy transition, researching and enhancing processes that ensure high performance and lower carbon footprint.”
According to Petrobras’s Logistics, Sales, and Market Director, Claudio Schlosser, CAP Pro W is a current alternative to the asphalt market’s future. “We’re providing our customers and society with lower emission asphalts, developing the production chain in a greener way.”
