Automotive engineering is developing by leaps and bounds. In addition, new powertrain technologies are presenting new challenges for workshops. With a broad and continuously updated portfolio of technical training courses, Bosch is helping workshops get to grips with the latest automotive technology, so that they are able to offer effective and affordable diagnostic, servicing, and repair work. For the 2024 educational year, therefore, the Bosch Service Training Center in Plochingen near Stuttgart has once again extended its training program to include classroom-based and online courses on current topics. Moreover, Bosch has revised many of its existing and popular courses and adapted them to new technological developments.
Apart from courses teaching participants how to work on advanced gasoline and diesel systems, the curriculum increasingly also includes courses on how to handle the high voltages found in hybrid and electric vehicles. This includes learning how to repair NiMH high-voltage batteries. Here, participants are instructed how to use the newly developed Bosch repair set for high-voltage batteries.
The repair set allows the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) module in the traction battery of selected Toyota and Lexus hybrid models to be replaced. For the first time, this opens up the business of repairing high-voltage batteries to independent workshops as well. In the repair course, participants learn all they need to know about handling the new repair set. To take part, they must first have qualified as a Level 3 high-voltage expert. For this as well, the Bosch Service Training Center offers a several-stage qualification course. Participants learn how to handle new powertrain technologies and to safely perform diagnostic and repair work on electrical powertrains. In this eight-day training course, workshop mechanics are brought up to Level 3E, the highest qualification level for work of all kinds on electric and hybrid vehicles. The necessary refresher courses are of course also provided for all qualification levels pursuant to DGUV 209-093 – these courses can be found in the latest training guide.
Cost-effective web-based training courses
One further highlight in the Service Training Center’s new curriculum is an online course qualifying participants to use the trailer PIN. In the Bosch Esitronic 2.0 diagnostic software for trucks and off-highway vehicles, access to the module for adjusting the electronic braking system of commercial vehicles and trailers is restricted for safety reasons. It is only granted if the workshop mechanic has earned special authorization in a training course. This qualification can now be earned in a web-based training course that is affordable and independent of time and place. Also for the first time, the curriculum includes an online course on diagnostic work in Tesla vehicles. And for diesel specialists, there are new courses on testing and repairing diesel pumps, while the injector repair course has been upgraded to include the new CRR950 software.
In addition, the Bosch Service Training Center experts have revised a whole series of courses and added new content. This applies to courses providing instruction in the use of Esitronic 2.0 Online (from main release 2024/1 Esitronic Evolution), to practicals dealing with the VW Golf 8, and to courses dealing with exhaust-gas treatment in diesel passenger cars and trucks. For diesel specialists, courses giving instruction on how to work with the DCI700/DCI200 test bench and the advanced course for diesel mechanics have been updated.
Booking and managing courses in the Automotive Campus
The entire Bosch Service Training Center curriculum can be accessed online in the Automotive Campus. At www.automotive-campus.com, workshops can book and manage classroom-based courses. The site also offers online courses and live webcasts in which workshop mechanics can acquire the latest knowledge, either at home or at their workplace. As a single key ID is needed to log on to the Automotive Campus, users only have to register once. Once they have done so, they can access not only the Automotive Campus, but also a whole series of other online content provided by Bosch.
