A Cooperation Agreement between the BA and José Martí National Library in Cuba
Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and H.E. Tania Aguiar Fernandez, Ambassador of Cuba to Egypt, signed a cooperation agreement between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the José Martí National Library in Cuba.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hazem Fahmy, Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs, along with a delegation from the Embassy of Cuba in Cairo, and the BA Heads of Sectors.
Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that this agreement comes as part of the strong relations and joint cooperation between Egypt and Cuba, as the Egyptian Minister of Health and his Cuban counterpart met two days ago to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations for the development of medical services. He also pointed out that Egyptian-Cuban relations are historic, as Egypt was the first African and Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba 70 years ago.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of reviving the cooperation between the BA and the José Martí National Library, as the former is proud to be a hub for diverse cultures and Egypt’s window on the world, and the latter is one of the most important libraries that has served the public for more than 120 years.
For her part, Ambassador Tania Aguiar Fernandez said that the BA is a wonderful and impressive place, and that she was pleased to sign the cooperation agreement to consolidate the strong relations between the two libraries, stressing that this cooperation is of great importance not only for Cuban culture, but for Latin America as a whole.
She also hoped that such cooperation would have a positive impact on specialists as well as the general public who are interested in science and knowledge, and that it would serve as a bridge of communication between the two cultures.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Ahmed Zayed presented Ambassador Tania Aguiar Fernandez with a collection of BA publications.
